RACHEL ECHENBERG, reaction
"My art practice explores presence through a body of work that highlights vulnerable, intimate and empathetic relationships. I have always been drawn to long duration actions that point towards slow physical and conceptual transformation. In the past few years, my work has been moving between live performance and visual/mediated images. This development has led me to question how proximity and dislocation affect the exchange between an artwork and its viewer. In contrasting image and sound with live presence, I am wondering about possibilities for active empathy and productive exchange from a distanced perspective." Rachel Echenberg 2007.

Bio : Rachel Echenberg’s work in performance, video and visual art has been performed, screened and exhibited throughout Canada and Europe as well as in Chile, Morocco, Lebanon and Japan. Her single-channel videos are distributed by Vidéographe in Montreal and are part of several collections.
