40 Years of La Centrale, Programming Series

This spring our Special Programming considers the impacts of historical feminist strategies on contemporary art practice. In the group exhibition Archives Cannibales (March 28th - April 12th), Joannie Boulais, Cynthia Girard, Lamathilde, Véronique Lépine, Natasha Rock and Kevin Rodgers got inspired by the invitations flyers of the exhibitions of La Centrale’s fourth last decades.

In an exhibition that explores the status of craft, weaving and performativity, two artists will present projects in the gallery, Héritage by jenna dawn maclellan and Loom Music by Wednesday Lupypciw (April 25th - May 10th).

Then on May 14th and 15th, Tanya Mars will present the performance Homage to the City of Women: Leaves of Gold over two days that considers restrictions put on womens’ contribution to knowledge production in history.

A look back at the influence of feminist canons and anti-canons continues in Hot Topic Redux a residency project in the gallery by Kirsten McCrea (May 23rd - June 6th).

Numerous artists including, k.g. guttman, Anne-Marie Proulx, Monique Moumblow and Anne Golden will be doing off-site research residency projects that explore the potential of reanimating our archive in multiple forms in and outside the gallery.

Our programming series culminates in a Performative Feast on Friday May 30th at 7pm. This performative feast will honour La Centrale’s past and those artists whose work, manifestos, and processes inspires our own. As part of this tribute to feminist art history, each guest is invited to costume themselves as a favorite feminist artist or artwork. There will be a costumed-procession, with giant cake, led by Noémi McComber and a feast created by Sonja Zlatanova in tribute major artworks of feminist art history.

This event will be followed the same night by a dancing fundraiser, Feminasty Party, with DJ’s and surprises, at Sala Rossa from 10pm-3am.
