Artist's Statement
My recent series of acrylic paintings is contemporary celebrity
portraits. I have tried to capture them looking their best, the way we remember them. There are 14 paintings and they are all 24” wide by 32” high. Tamare de Lempicka in her time and Andy Warhol in his time are similar to mine.
I spend many months looking through biography books with photographs and looking up images on the internet. I try to find the most flattering pose, and one that isn't too over exposed, so that it will be more interesting. I also try to choose just the right bright colors and make a recognizable image.
I make water colors, prints, and drawings some of the time, when I am in-between my portraits. Although my other work is more realistic, my acrylic paintings are abstract realism.
