LINDA COVIT
Exhibition: 22 January-11 February
The artist has a very individualist and explorative approach to her fibre hangings. The hand-dyed colours develop the mood and feelings of each piece, and together with the highly textural quality, one is compelled to visually or physically touch them. The actual technique -whether weaving, crochet, knotting, stuffing or wrapping- are used in a clear and deliberate manner so as to enhance the natural qualities of the fibres themselves. The juxtaposition of spun and unspun ropes and wool-soft/hard, rough/smooth, dull/shiny, the explosions of large and small stuffed balls, the hanging tendrils- all reflect the influence of the West coast, evoking images of organic forms washed ashore by the sea.
