LOVE ME, LOVE MY DOLL

Gabrielle Lajoie-Bergeron (La Malbaie)

Exhibition March 13 to April 10, 2015
Opening Friday March 13, 7pm
Artist Talk 6pm

LOVE ME, Love My Doll, by Gabrielle Lajoie-Bergeron is a consideration of the symbolic representation of the little girl. Her paintins work the thin frontier between the status of the young girl and that of an adult woman, between vulnerability, sexual agency and domination. This exhibition is a reflection on the standardisation of behaviours and desires, as well as the social construction of mythologies of a fantasy of femininity selling happiness and the pleasures of consumption.

Gabrielle Lajoie-Bergeron lives and works in Montreal. She earned a MFA from UQAM under the direction of Christine Major. Her work has been presented in several cities in Québec and Europe. In 2014 she curated two exhibitions : Insubordonnées and Paysage actuel – Wilderness Explorations (co-curated with Paul Brunet).

Over the last two years she has presented her work at Gallery B-312 (where she participated in a round table on issues in painting), Gallery Lillian Rodriguez, Galerie Art Mûr, at the Centre Papier-Presse, at Gallery Yellow Fish Art and at the artist-run centre Les Territoires. In 2015 Lajoie-Bergeron will be part of programming at La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse and Les Territoires.
