MFA Project

K.G. GUTTMAN, Montréal

“Things could always be otherwise and therefore every order is predicated on the exclusion of other possibilities.” -Chantal Mouffe, Artistic Activism and Agonistic Spaces “The city is your dance partner” - Gordon Matta-Clark k.g. Guttman will present two separate works for her thesis exhibition: Switcharoo and the night forever unfinished from October 24th-October 26th, 2007 at La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse. Both projects involve strategies to interfere in what exists already. In between a diagram and a drawing, the project Switcharoo (www.switcharoo.org) proposes to switch the locations of the Embassy of the United States of America and the National Gallery of Canada (both in Ottawa). Switcharoo also welcomes the public’s proposals to switch the locations of any two buildings in Montreal. The video the night forever unfinished is a work that uses the 1961 film La Notte by Michelangelo Antonioni as a point of departure. Inserting herself into Antonioni's wide angle shots, k.g. explores the empty space of this important historical film. Wednesday October 24th 12-5pm Thursday October 25th 12-2pm & 5-9pm Friday October 26th 12-5pm
