All that remains | Natcha Clitandre & Lynn Kodeih

Prix Powerhouse 2024 exhibition

All That Remains brings together the works of Natacha Clitandre and Lynn Kodeih, two artists who explore the complex and intimate relationship between the physical world, our sense of belonging, and the consequences of destruction. Through their respective practices, they grapple with the themes of displacement, loss, and the struggle to reclaim a sense of identity in the face of environmental and social upheaval.

Natacha's engravings are attempts to restore the landscapes and landmarks from her parents' documentation of Haiti before the 2010 earthquake, utilizing online resources documenting the aftermath of this disaster. These serve as a poignant reminder of the fragility of physical spaces and the impact of environmental disasters. Despite never having experienced these places firsthand, Natacha's connection to them is palpable, evoking a sense of dislocation and disorientation. Her work invites us to consider the aftermath of destroying physical spaces that once held meaning and belonging.

Lynn Kodeih presents two video installations taken from a larger body of work she has developed over the last three years. Her work questions the notion of place through different approaches: the space we lose, the one we destroy, the one that rejects us and the one that welcomes us. Defined by a tone at once melancholic and disquieting, her images subtly explore the brutality of the catastrophe immanent to her native country, but also the violence of reinventing oneself elsewhere. Her work focuses on the textures of the land, uncovering subtle details and elements that are often overlooked. Through the micro-movements of her hands and the repeated and lingering shots of her camera, she dwells on the materiality of place, trace and loss, inviting us to imagine what might emerge from the cracks of what remains.

Together, these works form a poignant meditation on the ephemeral nature of landscapes and our sense of self. They invite us to reflect on what remains when physical spaces are destroyed and how we can reconstitute our identities in response.
