YANNICK B. GÉLINAS, Montreal

As part of Sortir de l'écran / Spoken Screen, a series of performances and lecture on hypermedia works, Agence TOPO and NT2 present Yannick B. Gélinas (Montréal), poet and artist known for her extensive use of media art forms. She will perform on Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 8pm at La Centrale and give a lecture on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at UQAM. As a poet and video/new media artist, Yannick B. Gélinas directed several interactive works combining video portraits and poetry where she reveals herself, intimately, in a quest for happiness and the multiple manifestations of pleasure. The author is also an experienced blogger – www.yannou.com/blog – and she holds a weekly chronicle about new medias – www.dziit.com – for the program Premières vues (Canal Vox). At La Centrale, Yannick B. Gélinas will present VIDA, a video blog-performance where she will read excerpts from her blog and from her book, L'Emportement, with the participation of musician Janet Lumb and VJ Karine Charbonneau. In this performance, the artist will incorporate multiple disciplines from her media art practice. She will combine reading texts, live blogging, projecting footage from home-movies, children’s games, and other expressions of life’s pleasure taken from Plaisirs, le film. This short interactive film is a poetic fiction released on DVD with her book L'emportement published in 2006 by Planète Rebelle. L'emportement is her second book published with this editor, after Mordre, a poetry collection accompanied by a CD-ROM entitled Parenthèses in 2002. Y. B. For 2007-2008, 4 artists, each of whom integrate interactive media with their literary, performance, cinema and video based practices, have been invited to present works combining a live performance with new media projections (video and computer based). These events will take place at two separate venues beginning with a performance by artist Michelle Citron, from Chicago, on this Wednesday, October 17, at La Centrale and an artist talk on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at UQAM, where Citron will discuss her work and artistic approach. The series will later host Aya Karpinska from New York, on December 5-6, 2007, Yannick B. Gélinas from Montréal, on February 13-14, 2008, and Annie Abrahams from Montpellier, on March 26-27, 2008. Information about this series is available at http://www.sortirdelecran.ca PARTNERS This series, a joint initiative between Agence TOPO and Laboratoire NT2, is made possible with the collaboration of La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse, which hosts the performance, Figura, the Centre de recherche sur le texte et l'imaginaire (UQAM) and the Département d'études littéraires de l'UQAM who support the conference. The Research Laboratory for Hypermedia Literature and Art is a space which facilitates the renewal of analytic theory in literary studies, film studies and art history. NT2 intends to develop tools and a research nomenclature specific to new art forms, as well as refine their parameters of classification and cataloging, thereby providing an infrastructure not only making them more accessible, but also ensuring their conservation. NT2 promotes the study, reading, writing and archiving of new textualities, hypermedia and cyberart. http://www.labo-nt2.org LA CENTRALE 4296 St.Laurent Montréal, Québec 514.871.0268 UQAM pavillon Judith-Jasmin 1495, rue Saint-Denis, salle J-4255 Montréal, Québec 514.987.0425
