Call for submissions - 2027 Window

This call for submissions gives the opportunity to present a window exhibition at La Centrale during the 2027 programming year. We invite artists, curators, duos and collectives to apply.

The gallery’s window is a space that offers artists visibility directly on one of Montreal’s most lively streets, Saint-Laurent Boulevard. The projects submitted must use the window showcase as a scenographic element in order to create a dialogue between the work and the passers-by and residents of the neighbourhood. La Centrale welcomes visual artists from all disciplines who resonate with the centre’s mandate.

We pay exhibition fees and honoraria according to the rates recommended by the Canadian Artists’ Representation / Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC). We also provide financial support to artists who live outside of Montreal, for expenses such as accommodation, travel and transportation of works.

Our mandate

La Centrale galerie Powerhouse is an artist-run centre dedicated to the dissemination and development of multidisciplinary feminist practices. We are committed to supporting practices and artists who are not very visible in the dominant cultural institutions, and this at various stages of their careers. Our mandate focuses on feminisms that enter into dialogue with intersectionality and social justice. Our programming is built on the basis of non-hierarchy and consensus, by selection committees made up of active members of the centre.

Window exhibitions at La Centrale

Why a window exhibition, rather than an indoor one? Our centre closes its doors twice a year, in winter and summer, so that the team can rest and recharge. So we've developed a program specially designed for our storefront, which brings the centre's window to life in our absence. Passers-by on Boulevard Saint-Laurent can discover the work of one or more Montréal/Tiohtià:ke artists as they stroll by. These exhibitions generally last from one to two months. The gallery space is not open to the public, except by appointment.

Technical informations
  • As the showcase exhibition takes place during the center's seasonal closing periods, please note that it will not be accessible from inside, but visitors will be able to admire it from outside.
  • The selection committee encourages projects requiring little technical handling because the workers are not on site during the periods reserved for window exhibitions.
  • Projects requiring projectors or TV monitors are not recommended as they may be affected by window glare.
  • We accept works in progress or works that haven't yet been realized. You will have to include in your documentation images of the ongoing work and/or previous artworks.
