In preparation for our Annual General Assembly, La Centrale is seeking new members for our Board of Directors! Members who wish to apply for a position on the board are invited to attend our AGA on October 21, 2025, from 6-8:30 pm at L'Euguélionne, feminist bookstore. On the menu, snacks, refreshments and books!
Our mandate
La Centrale is an artist-run centre dedicated to the dissemination and development of multidisciplinary feminist practices. We are committed to supporting artists at different stages of their careers who are underrepresented in mainstream cultural institutions. With fifty years of history, La Centrale has been built on endurance and learning. The pillars of our practice lie within the (de)construction of our own systems and values, intersectional art, evolution through feminisms, and social engagement.
About the Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is the governing body of La Centrale. This volunteer position works in a non-hierarchical, collaborative, and feminist environment to oversee the organization and provide support to La Centrale’s co-director team. We are seeking new directors who support the centre’s mandate and values to commit to a one-year term, renewable. We are excited to welcome new members to our Board to contribute to La Centrale’s continued growth as a sustainable and relevant arts organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for the good governance of the organization and to maintain an understanding of the overall activities of La Centrale;
- Ensure the organization’s mandate is reflected in all aspects of programming and organizational activities;
- Attend quarterly Board meetings (additional meetings may be scheduled as needed);
- Provide support to the co-director team between meetings on an as needed basis;
- Attend Annual General Assembly in the Fall;
- Serve on one or more committees (HR, Finance, Fundraising, programing, communication, etc.).

- Governing artist-run centers and/or not-for-profit charitable organizations
- Knowledge about non-hierarchical structures

- Human resources and legal
- Finance/accounting
- Fundraising, Development, Grass-Roots Organizing
- Audience and community development
- Environmental sustainability
These expertises/interests represent a sample of relevant skills and experience. Candidates who possess qualifications that are not included in this list are encouraged to apply. We believe in the potential of growth and curiosity, and welcome applications from anyone who is excited to do the work. La Centrale aims to represent a diversity of voices in its structure and in its programming.
Eligibility
In order to be considered eligible for the Board of Directors, candidates must be members of La Centrale. Please note that our member platform is currently experimenting technical issues and payments cannot be processed.

Applications will be shared with La Centrale’s membership ahead of the Annual General Assembly. Interested candidates who do not apply before the deadline (October 16, 2025, 11h59 pm EST), can still run for a position on the Board during the AGA.
2. Attend Annual General Assembly: October 21, 2025, 6-8:30 pm (in-person at librairie L'Eugélionne)
Elections for the Board members take place at the AGA. New Board members are voted on by La Centrale’s membership. All applicants will have three minutes to present themselves.
If you are unable to attend the AGA, please make this clear when you confirm your interest. Arrangements can be made to have a representative present your application on your behalf.
