La salle de projet de La Centrale est mise à la disposition des Centrelles (les membres de la Centrale) et sera transformée en laboratoire. Dans ce lieu d’interventions, les Centrelles créeront un dispositif qu’elles feront vivre : en laissant une trace, un objet, un geste, une voix issus d’une pratique artistique personnelle orientée vers la performance, la sculpture, la peinture, l’installation ou l’art conceptuel.
Pendant deux heures, isolément ou en petit groupe, elles viendront y développer un travail et contribuer ainsi à l’élaboration d’un sens global et collectif. Ce laboratoire s’ouvrira sur une intimité, une fluidité, une transparence. Les interventions seront basées sur la production d’inter-relations en tissant des liens à travers un processus d’échanges. Chaque artiste confectionnera une petite carte qu’elle laissera à la galerie comme une trace de son passage.
Le public est invité à aller sur le site internet de La Centrale: une caméra web installée dans cette salle permet en effet de suivre les interventions en direct sur le web.

Biographies
Michelle Bush works in video, installation, sound and performance. She currently is a kitchen appliance sound artist with Women With Kitchen Appliances.

Amy Drover, is a fibre based artist, working in performance, photography and video. She lives in Montreal.

Lalie Douglas
Born in Montréal, Québec, in 1966, Lalie Douglas received a BFA in Studio Art from Concordia University in 1995. She has twice received Canada Council travel grants to exhibit outside of Québec and this year, she has received a research and creation grant from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec. Douglas has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, including Hearts, Roses and Other Stories at Neutral Ground in Regina, Les Très Riches Heures de Lalie Douglas at Circa, Montreal, Four Views, curated by Sandra Margolian, at the Owens Art Gallery and Michel de Broin, Lalie Douglas, Josée Dubeau, Lucie Duval at Circa. In November 2002, Douglas will be exhibiting The Reproductive Years at Circa.

Mei-Kuei Feu
Née à Taiwan, Mei-Kuei Feu vit et travaille à Montréal. Elle commence ses études en beaux-arts à l’université Tung-Hai de Taiwan et poursuit sa formation à Montréal en obtenant une maîtrise en arts plastiques à l’UQÀM en 1999. À Montréal elle présente surtout des interventions publiques avec projections vidéographiques et des installations-projections photographiques. En 2002, elle présente un projet photographique « Chemin perdu » à la Maison de la culture du plateau Mont-Royal.

Nicole Fournier
Artiste interdisciplinaire, performeuse, artiste visuel, née à Montréal, ses racines sont aux Québec et aux Antilles (Trinidad, Antigua et St-Kitts). Sa dernière performance était une intervention dans un champs de maïs à Beloeil. Ce projet continue avec discussions et rencontres avec l’agriculteur et se poursuivra dans d’autre région avec d’autres agriculteurs. 2002 N. Fournier a présenté la performance «Nipple hair and weedeater»à Montréal et à New York au mois de janvier, avril et mai. Membre de Play Group, La Centrale et PSi (performance studies international) à New York.

Stéphanie L’Heureux possède une culture à la fois large et solide dans le domaine des arts visuels, validée par un diplôme de maîtrise (université de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) et un cursus de troisième cycle (université de Montréal). Cette formation a été acquise dans un souci de cohérence, puisque toujours attachée à approfondir la connaissance de l’art, mais également de polyvalence. C’est ainsi qu’elle a successivement investi le terrain de la pratique artistique (diplôme en arts plastiques), de la connaissance historique de l’art occidental et des théories en art actuel (diplômes
en histoire de l’art) et celui de l’ouverture vers d’autres formes de traditions (formation en archéologie et anthropologie culturelle). Elle a exposé ses peintures et photographies à Québec et à Montréal.

Valerie Kimpton studied Environmental Design at the Ontario College of Art, during which time she spent a year painting in Florence, Italy. She then studied studio art and art history at Concordia University in Montreal and Art Conservation at the Université de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, specializing in photographic materials and works on paper. She has participated in exhibits in Canada and Europe, exhibiting paintings, drawings and photographs. Since 1999 Valerie lives in Montreal and has a studio where she works on both her conservation and artwork. Valerie also teaches alternative photographic processes in the photography department of the Saidye Bronfman Centre.

Lou Nelson
My work with fabric, colour, words and improvisation started in1990-91, first in workshops led by Ann Scofield, then with an independent group of women until 1995. In 1999, I continued with Louise Dubreuil and other performance artists in a group that eventually became the playgroup, which still meets weekly.

Ana Rewakowicz is an interdisciplinary artist born in Poland now working and living in Montreal. She is a graduate of Ontario College of Art in Toronto and Concordia University in Montreal. Her multidisciplinary art practice often combines photography, sculpture, video, sound and installation. Using textile materials, perceived as a metaphor for the body’s skin, Ana Rewakowicz explores issues of identity and belonging, emphasizing the ambivalence of feelings such as desire, pleasure, vulnerability and discomfort. She has exhibited within Canada, USA, Scotland and Bulgaria. Her most recent exhibitions include ‘The Occupants’ - a site-specific installation for ‘Le Demeure’ organized by Optica Gallery and curated by Marie Fraser, ‘Dreamscapes’ - an installation for the Grand Hall of the Musee du Quebec in Quebec City, ‘Oasis’ - a group exhibition at the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts in Montreal, ‘Tissues Urbains’ organized by Conseil Des Arts Textiles du Quebec in Montreal and ‘Inside Out’ - a solo exhibition at La Chambre Blanche in Quebec City. Her work has been awarded grants from the Canada Council for the arts and le Conseil des arts et des letters du Quebec.

Danielle Raymond est née à Montréal. Elle a complété un baccalauréat en arts visuels à l’École des arts visuels et médiatiques de l’Université du Québec à Montréal en 2001. Dans l’intervention qu’elle propose, c’est par le corps qu’elle aborde la problématique de l’identité. Il laisse la trace de son passage. Une empreinte de pied a été estampée à l’aquarelle et est marque de passage. Une pierre choisie lors d’une longue promenade à la mer y est accrochée. La marche : déplacement, parcours, itinéraire de l’identité .

Marie-Andrée Rho
J’ai complété mes études collégiales et universitaires en arts visuels pour ensuite consacrer mon activité artistique à l’art de la performance et à la peinture. Depuis quelques années j,ai réalisé plusieurs performances et oeuvres dans le paysage associant ma présence, la voix, la couleur et les éléments. À la frontière de plusieurs disciplines, la performance me permet de questionner et d’investir différemment l’espace du corps comme celui du lieu. Marie-Andrée Rho s’est manifestée ici et à l’étranger. Elle a participé à plusieurs événements artistiques et résidences en Allemagne, en République Tchèque, en Écosse, en Irlande et plus récemment en France à Paris. Elle a suivi de nombreux stages et perfectionnements avec des artistes de la performance, de la danse et du théâtre comme The New World Performance Laboratory. Elle fais partie d’un groupe de recherché en performance: Le Play Group avec lequel elle travail depuis trios ans.

Dominique Sirois est née et vit à Montréal. Après une majeur en arts plastiques et une mineur en étude française à l’Université de Montréal, elle poursuit son baccalauréat en Arts visuels et médiatiques à l’UQAM (2002).

Karen Spencer
I am exhibited and published. I am lucky and thankful to have met, be inspired by and involved with so many stirrer uppers here at la centrale, at performance chics and at play group. I’d say it is going ok.

Felicity Tayler received a BFA in studio art from Concordia University. She has shown in Montreal and Halifax and has been a contributor to Petite enveloppe urbaine. She is a founding member of the Centre de recherche urbaine de Montréal, a group devoted to creating and facilitating art within the urban landscape. She lives and works (in the design industry ? no kidding!) in Montreal.

Shannon Walsh incites the viewer to question issues of class, place, privilege, race and obsession in her work. She uses photography, performance, installation and film as part of her artistic practice. Based in Montreal, she has shown work in Canada and overseas.

Christina Hagmann is an designer and artist born in Switzerland. She is a graduate of fashiondesigne Hoehere Fachschule fuer Gestaltung beider Basel Weiterbildungsklasse fuer koerper + kleid and lived and workd in the POP-living-and working community @HOME. Her interdisciplinary work combines interior design and events performance, clothing, sculpture and photography.Using air as main medium for transmitting visions of the invisible bodies and homes. She has exhibited within Switzerland, Germany and Austria. Her work has been awarded grants from the Eidgenoessischer Wettbewerb in Switzerland. She is now working in Montreal on an art exchange programme between studio Bale-Montreal
until December.
